New Children’s Picture Book Coming Summer 2025

Elephants Do Forget: How Emory Found His Memory

new children's picture book

Elephants Do Forget: How Emory Found His Memory is a new children’s picture book set to be released this summer. It is a heartwarming story about a forgetful elephant and his quest to find his way home.

The book is inspired by my father’s battle with dementia and is meant to provide support to young readers who seek to better understand a loved one’s memory loss. The story is a delightful tale that introduces young readers to colorful characters and rich scenes of wonder while gently introducing young readers to the challenges of memory loss in an age-appropriate way.

The Story

Emory, a very noble but forgetful elephant, loses his way in the forest one day. Luckily, he meets a vivacious parrot and a generous frog who help him find his way home. Through their travels across diverse landscapes, they deliver Emory back to his family, who are grateful for the kindness of strangers who become new friends. Playing on the proverb “an elephant never forgets,” the book shows readers that even in the face of memory loss, a cherished family member can overcome their condition with perseverance and the support of others.
Young readers who enjoy adventure, animal tales, and making new friends will enjoy this book. It is a fresh take on similar books, like Grandma and Me by Beatrice Tauber Prior and Mary Ann Drummond, as well as Will Grammy Remember Me? by J. Elizabeth, in the sense that it uses globally engaging elements such as relatable animal characters and common themes from society to help young readers better relate to the memory loss of a loved one, albeit in a lighthearted and supportive manner that appeals to young children.
